The intent of this project is to provide shelter and related social facilities in the hot, arid climate of Southern California for elderly low-income people in 82 one bedroom units. Since orientation is an important energy concern, deep recesses on the east, south, and west shade the openings in the summer, but allow sun penetration during cooler months. The summer night-cycle system uses night air to cool the building mass.
