Affordable Housing Community – West Hollywood, California
In association with Patrick Tighe Architecture, Inc.
La Brea is a busy commercial street with several Art Deco and streamline modern buildings with iconic vertical architectural elements at the entrances. Additionally, the building to the south is a McDonald’s known for its arches.
The Courtyard at La Brea facade is a reference to the architectural statements of its neighbors. The south east corner, which has extreme street exposure, is highlighted with a series of curve enclosure panelsand voids. The remaining street facade is faced with a layered screen with minimal detailing to heighten the importance of the curved entry facade. The design of the building is centered around a courtyard, a traditional residential building feature in West Hollywood. The north / south orientation of the courtyard is designed for maximum sun access in the winter.
Sustainability elements including solarpanels and recycled materials are incorporated throughout the building.
